Understand your symptoms: Diagnosing ADHD in adults online
Do you notice symptoms of ADHD in yourself?
❌ Are you constantly having a flurry of thoughts in your head that makes it difficult to focus on anything any longer?
❌ Are you missing details or inadvertently doing an inaccurate job?
❌ Do you rarely pay attention to detail or make mistakes due to inattention?
❌ Having trouble staying organized and meeting deadlines?
❌ Are you interrupting other people's speech? Are you interrupting their work?
❌ Do you have difficulty keeping your attention on tasks?
❌ Can't wait your turn during a conversation?
❌ Others say you are often thoughts somewhere else?
❌ Are you forgetting bills, phone calls, appointments?
❌ Do you avoid like hell tasks that require focus?
❌ Do others perceive you as an anxious person?
❌ Do you feel like you are distracted by everything?
❌ Are you quickly losing interest in the topic?
❌ Are you unable to stand still, such as in line?
❌ Is your talkativeness problematic?
❌ Are you perpetually losing something?
If at least five of these statements sound familiar to you, it is very possible that you are one of the many people affected by ADHD. Since similar symptoms are also produced by other disorders, including stress, an in-depth interview with a specialist will be key to properly diagnosing your problem.
What is ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder)?
ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, accompanied by attention deficit disorder, is a neurobiological condition. Its causes can include genetic factors (gene mutations), anatomical factors (functional abnormalities of brain structures), atypical neurometabolism, neurodevelopmental disorders, and prenatal and environmental factors.
What is the process of ADHD diagnosis?
Today, we have access to a growing body of research that indicates that both ADHD diagnosis and ADHD therapy can be conducted online. The correct diagnosis can be made by a specialist - a psychologist or psychiatrist.
✅ Your doctor will interview you to confirm whether you actually have ADHD. In doing so, he will make use of psychological tests. He will discuss your childhood development with you and question you about your treatment history. He may also want to verify information from your school certificates and reviews.
✅ After the history, he will determine the next plan of action, that is, how the treatment will proceed. ADHD in adults, as in children, can be treated by reducing symptoms. This uses behavioral methods (various forms of therapy) and drug treatment. You will receive the appropriate medication from your psychiatrist.
Do ADHD symptoms change with age?
ADHD symptoms can evolve with age - motor hyperactivity mildens, while problems with concentration and organization remain. This is partly due to the maturity of the brain, partly due to strategies for adapting to the environment. Often, adults' failure to properly recognize ADHD causes them to start "wearing masks" to hide their symptoms and not expose themselves to criticism or rejection.
Are ADHD symptoms in women the same as in men?
The symptoms and consequences associated with this disorder are different for both sexes.
In men:
Symptoms are often more noticeable and related to outward behavior. They may exhibit greater impulsivity, physical hyperactivity, and their problems are noticeable as early as childhood, around age 6-7.
ADHD in adult men puts them at risk for legal problems, addiction and other risky behavior.
In women:
Symptoms are more likely to be more "internal" and thus less noticeable to those around them. Women are more likely to experience internal hyperactivity, problems with concentration, organization and time management, and have low self-esteem.
Noticeable symptoms appear much later than in men, around the age of 12, making them often taken for symptoms of puberty, symptoms of other psychiatric disorders or for hormone-related mood disorders.
Both sexes face similar difficulties, including feelings of shame and inadequacy, which is why proper psychological diagnosis is so important. Participation in ADHD therapy and initiation of drug treatment clearly improve the quality of life of people with the disorder.
