This issue can be looked at from two sides. Firstly, we could consider any type of therapy as integrative therapy, where techniques are used that go beyond the scope of the current in which the therapist trained. For example, a psychodynamic therapist may offer a client cognitive training to help him recover from depression.
Secondly, integrative therapy can be approached as a completely separate trend, which is formed by combining the most effective techniques and tools of different therapeutic currents. The theorist who put forward such a proposal was Palmer (1980). He proposes to combine the dynamic approach (focused on internal experiences, memories, fears, etc.) with a behavioral approach (human reactions and behavior in response to the external world) and places them in a social context.Currently in Poland there are already schools for therapists, where they can gain basic knowledge from several therapeutic currents during a 4-year training.
