In life we face various situations and emotions. However, sometimes there comes a day when mundane problems grow into mountains and we lose ground. We don't know how to deal with them and don't even have the strength to do so. This is the moment to ask for support from a qualified specialist - a psychologist.
What are the benefits of meeting with a psychologist?
The decision to seek the help of a psychologist is the first step toward a better understanding of yourself and your needs.
Psychologist:
will help you understand what your feelings and sensations stem from;
will help you understand why you react to certain triggers in certain ways;
will equip you with specific strategies and techniques to help you cope with difficulties, such as managing stress;
will provide you with emotional support - impartial and professional;
will teach you to understand your own behavioral and emotional patterns and to communicate better;
will show you your strengths and find ways to boost your confidence and self-esteem;
will diagnose your mental disorder and refer you to a psychiatrist or psychotherapist for appropriate help;
will help you discover your own goals, values, needs and aspirations;
will support you through a difficult time and help you work through the feelings of loss.
What does the first session with a psychologist look like?
There is no single pattern according to which the first psychological consultation takes place. The psychologist is sure to ask you a lot of questions to learn about your history and assess your case. It doesn't require any special preparation from you - just share your problems and try not to hide anything. Meeting with a psychologist is a conversation based on trust and honesty.
The psychologist is tasked with making an appropriate diagnosis - he does not provide therapy or prescribe medication. At your request, he can issue a ruling or certificate on your mental health.
