Sexual disorders and intimacy problems are conditions that should be treated like other diseases and treated with the right specialist.

If you are struggling with a lowered mood and are having difficulty fulfilling your sexual needs - get help from a sexologist.

Why take care of your sexuality?

Sexuality is one of the reasons motivating people to interact and bond. Proximity to another person is a source of strong sensations and experiences - physical and mental. Sex promotes health, activates the cardiovascular, muscular and respiratory systems and strengthens the immune system. It keeps our body in good shape, and a successful sex life provides both partners with a sense of happiness and self-realization.

Isn't it better to solve intimacy issues for two?

When dealing with intimate problems in the first place, it's a good idea to start with a frank conversation with your partner or partner. A face-to-face dialogue is proof of trust - "I love you, so I share good and bad moments with you." Unfortunately, only 30% of Polish couples opt for this solution.

The awkwardness that accompanies talking about intimate issues makes it difficult for partners to communicate with each other. Although talking to an understanding partner is a good start, because it makes both of them aware of the seriousness of the matter, human sexuality is a complex issue. The difficulties that arise can be both physical and psychological, and those without specialized knowledge may misjudge the situation, moving the couple further away from a proper solution.

Many people delay the decision to see a specialist for years, turning to a sexologist for help only after their relationships have already broken down. Don't let embarrassment or unfounded fear lead to the breakdown of your relationship.

Sexual desire disorders and more - what does a sexologist do?

The support of a sexologist is necessary not only for erectile dysfunction. We will consult with him, among other things:

  • Sexual desire disorders (low or too high libido);

  • sexual dysfunction - including those resulting from chronic diseases or the use of pharmacotherapy;

  • Gender identity and sexual orientation disorders;

  • Problems in relationships and sexual communication;

  • difficulties in building or maintaining emotional and physical closeness in relationships.

Sexologists also provide information on sexual health, safe sex and contraception methods.

How to master the shame and fear of visiting a sexologist?

A person affected by a sexuality problem has to break down many of his own barriers:

  • Realize the existence of the problem;

  • get used to the idea that despite the passage of time, the problem does not go away on its own;

  • decide to visit a specialist and entrust him with your secret.

And although sexual difficulties are often medical conditions, in mass culture they are still morally categorized or seen as something that ridicules and lowers a person's value. Shame is a powerful blocking factor, which is why for many of us the first visit to a sexologist is a stressful experience.

However, this does not have to be the case.

A consultation with a sexologist is a medical appointment - you are a patient and you need expertise to solve your problem. Think how much you can gain by taking control of your sexuality and gaining confidence in your intimate interactions.

How does the first outpatient appointment with a sexologist go?

Psychologist, sexologist, psychotherapist - these professionals know that without making the patient feel safe, they will not establish a therapeutic relationship. That's why their offices are spaces created to talk about intimate topics.

Perhaps in no other medical field does a skillfully gathered history play such a dominant role in identifying the nature of a dysfunction as in sexology. Your first visit to a specialist may seem very intense. First, the doctor will ask you for personal information, and then information about:

  • marital status;

  • education and occupation;

  • Your loved ones - children and your partner / partner;

  • Your housing conditions;

  • Your or your partner's addictions/addictions;

  • Your health condition, past and current illnesses.

Then you will talk about the problem that is the reason for the visit:

  • Under what circumstances it appeared and when it becomes active;

  • With what intensity it occurs;

  • Whether it involves the presence of your partner or partner;

  • Whether he has already been treated (with what result).

Other questions may relate to adolescence, current partnership and current sex life.

All this information, often supplemented by a history from your partner or partner's partner (if possible and you agree) will enable the doctor to decide whether additional diagnostic tests are needed.

If tests are indeed necessary, at your next appointment the sexologist will confront your results with the information obtained from your medical history. This will allow him to choose the optimal method of treatment, tailored to your condition and the nature of your partnership.

What additional tests can a sexologist refer a patient to?

In many cases, it is another disease of origin that causes sexual dysfunction, and its treatment removes the cause of intimate problems. To rule out somatic causes of the disorder, the sexologist may refer the patient to:

  • biochemical blood tests;

  • Blood tests of sex hormone levels;

  • ECG studies;

  • Ultrasound, CT scan or MRI;

  • Arteriography, electronegraphy (ENG) or electromyography (EMG).

Men may additionally be asked to undergo a Doppler study of penile arterial and venous blood flow or diagnostic injections of vasoactive drugs into the penile corpora cavernosa.
