Help yourself and your loved ones: Family Therapy - Warsaw

Is family therapy the solution for my family?

A family is a collective that is supposed to provide security and stability. Sometimes, however, something disrupts its healthy functioning.

If your family has the following problems:

❌ communication difficulties (you feel like no one talks to each other, or no one listens to anyone, and frequent arguments are the order of the day);

❌ difficult-to-solve parent-child conflicts (parenting problems, such as parents setting boundaries and rules);

❌ Mental illness of one family member and its impact on the lives of others;

❌ Eating disorders in children and adolescents that fail to resolve;

❌ domestic violence or other abuse (e.g., self-destructive behavior by one family member);

❌ adaptation difficulties (e.g., the arrival of a new family member or a move);

❌ addiction of one of the family members;

❌ Life crisis (e.g., divorce, separation, death of a loved one);

❌ lack of a sense of unity;

then family therapy will be the tool to help you get through these difficulties.

What is family psychotherapy?

Family psychotherapy is a form of work with families in crisis. It is a series of regular meetings (sessions) in which family members voluntarily participate. They are conducted by a psychotherapist / psychologist with the appropriate credentials, acting as an impartial mediator and guide. He assists family members in conducting discussions and in carrying out specific exercises.

The therapist's task is to learn the point of view of family members and their history. On this basis, he defines the causes of the problems faced by the family and makes positive changes in its functioning.

The goals of family therapy include, but are not limited to:

  • Building deeper understanding and empathy between family members;

  • Restoration of balance and harmony in mutual relations;

  • Changing negative behavior patterns;

  • Teaching family members to cope with stress and emotions.

How does a family therapy session go?

During the therapy sessions you will talk a lot with each other - about important, difficult and sometimes embarrassing things. The whole family will participate in the conversations - everyone will be heard.

In family therapy, the psychologist/psychotherapist uses various techniques, such as mediation and role-playing. As a family, you learn to solve problems - such as coping with the disease and its effects, having valuable conversations and showing empathy for each other.

Each session will be summarized at the end, and sometimes homework may await you. The psychotherapist will point you in the direction of working on the quality of your relationships.

The course of each meeting will depend on the specific needs, problems and dynamics of your family. Each of your meetings is a step closer to stronger family ties and a solution to your problem.
